Fall is around the corner! Sure, it’s still 90 degrees outside but kids have started the new school year and it is rainy and dreary out today so that coupled with the coolness in my house, my coffee, and my oh-so-hot shower got me thinking. I got Fall on the brain today. You may (or may not be) wondering what that means. Well, lucky for you (or maybe not) … I’m going to tell you!
Fall is pumpkins, coffee, campfires, and … THANKSGIVING!!!!
Life is not always easy, but in everything, I choose to give thanks. Yes, even in the hard times. Even in the storms of life. I know that beyond those storm clouds the sun is still shining and that the clouds will eventually move on. So, during those difficult times, I try to be thankful, but sometimes I slip up.
Those slip-ups come out in my mood, my attitude, and even how I treat my own family and others. Another thing I noticed is that when I’m not being intentional in my thoughts and attitudes in this area, the response I give others can be quite snippy if my toes get stepped on. In other words, my reactions to others are … well … REACTIVE. Fun. RIght?
Oh, and guess what else… My kids are watching and they tend to duplicate what they see. So, yeah… I got to work on that.
What if we had reminders all around our home to help us be intentionally thankful? What if we all had the attitude of gratitude all year long?
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17
If I have reminders around my home, maybe it would encourage me to be more intentional. So I searched a few things out to see what I could find! Here are some great options for home decor at Target to help get our home ready for Fall and even the upcoming holiday festivities… but most importantly, to help us remember to be THANKFUL IN ALL THINGS! Enjoy!
***Below are affiliate links, which means when you click on a picture, the link will take you to Target.com where you can read about the product, the reviews, and if you make a purchase using any of the links, I will make a little money. However your price remains the same. See my full disclosure here.
And here are some awesome options from DaySpring too! They are a Christian company that has been in business since 1971 and offer a wide array of products from gift items to stationary to home decor to Bible journaling supplies to jewelry and even pottery. Oh, and their pricing is very reasonable with frequent sales. I don’t have to say that I love DaySpring but I can’t help it. I do! And I promise I’m not saying that just because I’m an affiliate. I genuinely love them. 🙂
Just a little something to ponder …
Why is it that we have an easier time being intentional in living out kindness in just two months of the year? What about the other 10 months of the year? It’s overwhelming to think that only twelve disciples turned the world upside down for Jesus.
What if everyone tried harder to be kind to others throughout the year? What if we went out of our way to bless others rather than think ill of or talk about them?
What if?
What would you learn about yourself if you worked harder at being kind to others? What would others learn about you? How would your kids change as a result of your actions?
Consider yourself challenged.
I’ve heard it said before that if you want to see where your heart is, check out your bank account. Check out where you spend your time.
So how do you purpose in yourself to keep kindness and gratitude at the front of your mind? One way is to get a piece of decor that you (and everyone in your household) will see every day. 🙂
Another idea that I love is to keep a Thankful Journal. Try it. It’s simple. Or just keep a running list in your notes app on your phone. Try to add to it every single day.
Just. Try.
ALL. TWELVE. MONTHS.
